Types Of Pallets

Grade A are the highest-quality recycled pallets available. They have minimal signs of wear and tear and undergo extensive repairs to restore them to near-new condition.

Grade A

Key Characteristics:

Consist of clean, uniform boards with no significant cracks or damage.

Free from broken stringers or visible plugs.

Seven or more top deck boards and five bottom deck boards for added stability.

Minimal signs of discoloration, stains, or wear.

Grade B

Pallets Grade B, are cost-effective options for internal use or applications that don’t prioritize appearance. These pallets have undergone moderate repairs, often including stringer reinforcement with metal plates or plugs.

Key Characteristics

May include visible repairs, such as plugs or metal plates, to reinforce damaged stringers.

More signs of wear and discoloration compared to Grade A pallets.

Six or fewer top deck boards and four bottom deck boards, depending on the repair process.

Suitable for heavy-duty applications with less focus on aesthetics

Plastic

Standardization is at the core of the GMA/CBA pallet’s value to the industry. These dimensions have become the default for grocery, retail, and consumer packaged goods shipments because the pallet size can be consistently accommodated in most transport, storage, and automated environments.

Key Characteristics

Durability: Plastic pallets are made from durable plastic, making them resistant to moisture, chemicals, and pests.

Resistance to heavy loads: Some plastic pallets are designed to withstand heavy loads.

Nesting features: Stackable plastic pallets save space when stacked, making them suitable for transportation.

Load capacity: The maximum weight that a plastic pallet can safely support

Block

The block pallet gets its name from the blocks that form its base. There are typically 9 blocks in a block pallet, with a solid wood block placed in each of the four corners, in the center of each side of the pallet, and in the center of the pallet itself to support the unit load.

Key Characteristics

Its use of solid blocks.

Often arranged in a three-by-three grid.

Connecting the top and bottom decks.

The top deck boards are fastened directly to the blocks, often with the addition of stringer boards sandwiched between them

Custom Pallets

Custom pallets are tailored pallet solutions designed to meet specific dimensional, weight, material, or regulatory needs. Unlike standard sizes (like 48” x 40”), custom pallets are built around your product specs, handling methods, and logistics systems.

✅ Benefit

Product Fit - Avoid overhang, wasted space, or stacking issues. Ensures proper support and stability.

Increased Load Efficiency - Optimize space in trucks, containers, and storage.

Reduced Damage - Tailored design improves load support and reduces risk of damage during transit.

Export Compliance - Can be built to meet ISPM-15 or industry-specific standards.

Material Choice - Wood, plastic, or composite — based on weight, durability, or hygiene needs.

Heat Treatment Process

Heat-treated pallets, sometimes referred to as HT pallets, are wooden pallets that have been heated in a chamber to a core temperature of at least 140 degrees Fahrenheit. The wooden pallets must be kept at this temperature for at least 30 minutes. Heat-treated pallets are primarily used to export products outside of the United States.

The heat treatment process for pallets is a critical method used to eliminate pests and pathogens from wood, especially for pallets involved in international shipping. It ensures compliance with the ISPM-15 standard (International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures No. 15), which is required by most countries to prevent the spread of invasive species through wood packaging material
